I did not expect to like this release simply because I'm not big into Fanu, but this is a pure classic. How do Metalheadz STILL continue to destroy ears this long in the game???

Almost 2 years on from his Metalheadz Platinum debut Finnish breakbeat stalwart Fanu returns with 4 slabs of distinguished jungle music for the 'Legacy EP'.
Fanu's characteristic crunch is consistent throughout as he joins forces with fellow countryman Infader for the title track which sits above 3 solo cuts, 1 of which drops the tempo just as his previous offering did. Ice cold breaks and galactic atmospherics drive each track along effortlessly, with Fanu laying down his own methods which have brought about his reputable nature as both a producer and trusted mastering engineer.

Lushness is a Metalheadz signature, but this album is so atmospheric, it (or at least its first 3/4) could have been a Good Looking release in the late '90s/early '00s. It reminds me of artists like KMC, Rantoul, and Future Engineers who brought programmed drums and a sleeker, techier vibe to atmospheric dnb. The last 1/4 of this album is slightly darker and reminds me of classic neurofunk; it could have been a Subtitles release in the early '00s.

Nobody does the Metalheadz sound better than Mako in 2020. Funk, pain, beauty, filth, technology...and like the Onemind LP this is a journey through tracks, not just a bunch of singles stuffed together. Åsmund Mæland
